Candle Warmers 101: The Cozy Trend You Need to Try

Have you spotted candle warmers all over social media? They are having a major moment and for good reasons. This rising trend offers a new way to enjoy your favorite candles without lighting a wick. Here’s what you need to know before adding a candle warmer to your space.

What is a candle warmer?
A candle warmer is an electric device designed to gently heat a candle from above, releasing its fragrance without the need for an open flame. NCA recommends using overhead, lamp-style warmers, which use a bulb positioned above the candle to melt the wax from the top down.

Other types of warmers, such as those that heat from the bottom, can fully liquefy the wax causing the wick to shift or lean against the side of the container. In turn, this can potentially create a hot spot in the glass and increase the risk of the container cracking or shattering, particularly with glass jars.

How do you use one?
Using a candle warmer is simple. Place your candle under the warmer, plug it in, and turn it on. Within minutes, the wax begins to melt and release fragrance. Because there’s no flame involved, many users find warmers to be a convenient option for everyday use.

It’s worth noting that not all candles are designed specifically for warmers, but most standard jar candles work well. Over time, you may notice the fragrance fading as the essential oils are used up, even though wax remains.

Safety tips to keep in mind
Even though candle warmers eliminate an open flame, they still require thoughtful use:

  • Always place your warmer on a stable, heat-resistant surface.
  • Keep it away from water and high-traffic areas.
  • Avoid touching melted wax while in use.
  • Use the correct bulb wattage.
  • Turn off and unplug the device when not in use or look for candle warmers with automatic timers.
  • Warmers with adjustable height features are beneficial since candles should be four to six inches away from the warmer heat source.
  • Keep warmers out of reach of children and pets.
  • Never lit a candle after it has been used on a candle warmer.

Why people love them
Candle warmers offer a few unique perks. They can extend the life of a candle by melting wax more evenly, reduce soot or smoke concerns, and provide a flame-free option for spaces where open flames aren’t ideal like offices, dorms, or homes with curious pets.

Plus, they double as décor. Many warmers come in stylish designs that add a cozy glow to any room, making them both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

Whether you’re a longtime candle lover or just exploring new ways to enjoy candles in your home, candle warmers are a trend worth trying.
